Eazy-E - The Boyz N The Hood 12" Vinyl Record
Posted by Rapbay on Feb 9th 2026
Few records capture the birth of West Coast gangsta rap quite like “Boyz-n-the-Hood.” Originally written by a 17-year-old Ice Cube, the track began as a demo he brought to Eric “Eazy-E” Wright, who was then running Ruthless Records. Cube intended to shop the song to another artist, but before long, Eazy-E recorded the track himself — launching not only his own career but helping ignite a cultural movement.
Shortly after the recording, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, and DJ Yella formed N.W.A, and the track appeared on N.W.A and the Posse, helping define the group’s raw, street-level storytelling and hard-hitting production. The following year, Eazy-E released another version on his 1988 solo debut Eazy-Duz-It, further cementing the song’s status as a cornerstone of gangsta rap.
Driven by Dr. Dre’s booming beats and Cube’s vivid narrative writing, “Boyz-n-the-Hood” offered an unfiltered portrayal of life in South Central Los Angeles — something rarely heard in mainstream music at the time. Its influence would ripple through hip-hop for decades, inspiring artists across generations and reshaping the sound and voice of West Coast rap.
As part of its Respect The Classics campaign, UMe brings this iconic title back to wax for the first time in years with a 12-inch vinyl repress. This collector-worthy pressing features the legendary “Boyz-N-The-Hood” alongside “L.A. Is The Place,” making it an essential addition for hip-hop historians, DJs, and vinyl enthusiasts alike.
More than just a single, this release represents a pivotal moment in hip-hop history — the point where raw street narratives met groundbreaking production and changed the direction of rap music forever.
